Hi lovelies
I’m currently writing this from the airport, on my way to London for a very exciting business trip!
Can I be really honest with you…?
Sitting here, laptop open, tapping away, it actually feels… uncomfortable.
You’d think travelling alone to my absolute fave city in the world (especially after two intense weeks of having the kids velcroed to my side over the Easter holidays!) would fill me with pure joy and excitement. This is my choice and a positive step I have made for myself.
And yet… enter stage left… here comes…Janet.
Janet is the name I’ve affectionately given to my Inner Critic, and right now she’s trying to board the plane with me. She’s that negative voice that fills you with dread and doom. It sounds a bit like:
“Who do you think you are?”
“This will never work.”
“Turn back before you make a fool of yourself.”
“You’re too old for this.”
Maybe you’re also sitting right now with your own Inner Critic snuggled up close too.
Notice how those thoughts hold you back and make you feel. Not very inspiring are they.
(By the way, I highly recommend naming yours it really helps. Let me know what you call yours.)
In our 40s, these voices can get even louder, can’t they? Especially when we’re dreaming about doing something new — starting a new side project, finding love, changing careers, going on an adventure, having fun or finally fulfilling a life’s passion we’ve tucked away in our pocket for years.
All those old beliefs recorded on our inner Belief Playlist of what being in our 40s ‘should be’ might also start to play louder…
Thoughts like:
“It’s too late for me.”
“Who am I to create something new at this stage of life?”
“Am I having a midlife crisis?”
“I thought I would have x, y, z by now.”
“I should have it all figured out.”
“I still feel 25 how can I possibly be in my 40s?!”
We tell ourselves it’s safer to stay where we are.
We might even convince ourselves that dreaming big is for other people. If we’re honest maybe we might believe that the fun stuff those delicious dreams, well they are for people younger in their 20s and 30s.
Those beliefs can sneak up on you whether you can hear them or not.
But here’s the thing.
Janet, at her core, is my almighty subconscious mind, and she actually has my best interests at heart which are to keep me alive and safe.
This internal negative safety inspector just wants me to keep doing the same thing, day in and day out.
So flying to London to do something that will help elevate and transform my business and life — is not part of my usual day to day.
The truth is, to grow, to evolve and to move forward, you have to literally challenge those beliefs, take inspired action and move towards what you want to do.
It’s about dropping into the conscious mind and choosing to create opportunities that are in alignment to how you want your future to feel and be.
That uncomfortable tingling in your tum, you get in the present moment? That’s growth. That’s change. It’s a signal that you’re evolving.
Today, as I sit with my Inner Critic I’m giving her a big hug and telling her that I have got this. I’m choosing to move forward and shift my vibe and energy into the future version of myself.
If you’re facing your own Inner Critic today, give them a big hug too and start to gently challenge that negative voice… Where did this belief come from? Is it mine to carry? What new belief can I believe in instead?
Then tune in and ask yourself what can you do that gets your soul excited (and maybe makes your bum clench a little)?
Email me or drop into the chat and let me know — I’d love to hear!
Here’s what’s coming up inside The Tapping Membership in May.
May Live Sessions:
On Wednesday 7th May 12pm BST we’re focusing on Brain Fog.
Brain fog is one of the sneakiest, most frustrating parts of perimenopause. It can show up as:
Forgetting your keys
Feeling like your creativity has disappeared
Losing your words mid-presentation and feeling that jolt of panic
Last year, brain fog hit me hard, and for a while it felt like it was running my life.
But through tapping, mindset shifts, and tools I now share inside The Reset, the fear no longer rules me like it used to. You will also receive a Brain Fog Support Guide to help you feel clearer and more empowered day-to-day.
The second Reset on Tuesday 20th May 12pm BST will focus on your dreams and giving your Inner Critic a gentle nudge out of the way.
It’s a Spring-positive tap that clears out the gunky energy holding you back, helps you declutter your mind, and gets you ready to spring forward.
We’ll also be editing your Belief Soundtrack with some uplifting new tunes!
For members, your Live Tapalong links for May will be sent directly to your inbox.
