and how do we get it back?
I thought it would be better than this… I whispered to my friend wiping away tears.
After I turned 40, I started feeling disconnected from my friends and family, my spark was dimmed, low on energy, irritated, sad and frustrated. Desperately missing who I used to be. On paper everything seemed ok, which added to the shame and guilt for feeling this way.
Is this really what life after 40 looks like? I did not sign up to this.
The decades before felt fuller more free and fun. What on earth had happened to me? Was I really ready to resign myself that life doesn’t get much better this? I didn’t know who I was, where I was going and also how I was even suppose to get there.
After many conversations I realised I wasn’t alone. It led me down a path of research and studying to find out what is actually going on here.
Why are so many fabulous women in their 40s losing their confidence?
And how can we get our confidence back?
This lonely lost place is where the idea for Rise and Vibe a coaching space for women in their 40s began. The 40s are a pivotal moment. Physically with the start of perimenopause and emotionally a shift in identity and going into a new chapter. Yet there was not much support back then for women in their 40s so I decided to create.
As a Certified Menopause Coach and Rapid Tapping Pro® I use a mind, body and energy approach. Why? Because Perimenopause and Menopause is a full mind and body experience. What I’ve realised is that you can’t support one without the other. Plus everything is energy and when you tap into that higher frequency you tap into new possibilities.
Here are my three biggest learnings so far on this forty-something wild ride and how to reclaim your confidence.
🪩 Understanding Perimenopause and Post Menopause and that it is a full body experience not just isolated in the ovaries. That it can impact your physical and mental health and it can feel like a rollercoaster with highs and lows. There are strategies that you can start right now that will proactively extend the quality of your health span as well as life span.
If you are going through Perimenopause this is the golden year to do it as (while women’s wellbeing is still behind I know) we have more information at our fingertips that our mothers, grandmothers and great grannies ever had and wished they had. Knowledge is power.
🪩 Upgrade Beliefs. Yes Perimenopause plays a part in your wellbeing in our forties but what about other factors such as how we feel in ourselves and those beliefs we have on aging?
This is where belief and healing works comes in during this decade. There is a grief process which can impact women in many ways and a shift that takes place. Being kind and compassionate to yourself during this time and applying all the Self Love you learnt in your 30s is invaluable. Within my 1:1 work we spend a lot of time here, healing and nurturing that inner teen version of you (Perimenopause is puberty in reverse) as stuff can come up and saying goodbye to one part and welcoming the next chapter of you life. Personally I see this as the next chapter as a new dancefloor, which is why you might see lots of disco balls on my website.
Untangling beliefs on what midlife looks like is crucial not only for your confidence and happiness levels but all the research shows that a positive mindset to aging increases your life span. With many women. spending 40% of their life post menopause and starting new careers and adventures in their 50s plus, there are lots of possibilities to tap into.
